Monschau – the pearl of the Eifel

Monschau, the little town that is around 1,000 years old is nestled in a small, rocky valley of the river Rur. Not far from Aachen, Monschau lies in the middle of the High Fens Eifel Nature Park, and has been a health resort since 1996. Walking through the quiet town centre, you will see almost exclusively slate-clad and timber-framed houses. Lots of specialised, local artisans’ workshops and shops, cafes and impressive tourist spots are concentrated here. It is also possible to visit the following museums on a visit to the town centre: the Red House, the Rock Cellar, the brewery, the historical monastery brewery with its collection of old fashioned brewing equipment, the historic mustard mill and the printing press museum. Monshau’s old town can be reached via the historic town train that departs from the parking house.
